Bread Rolls and Water in Sorbas
Every year, on the 16th of August, local lads and visitors alike anxiously await the moment when the image of San Roque descends from the Parish Church of Santa Maria. From there the procession sets off, accompanied by local dignitaries, the Queen of the Fiesta and her Ladies, residents and the municipal orchestra. Bread rolls rain down upon them from the balconies as they walk through the streets.
Already tired and thirsty, the village lads beg for water and it comes to them … from the balconies!
After the image of the Saint is returned to the church, people share the blessed bread rolls that were donated to the Saint and carried with the throne.
In the square and in the streets, the spirit of fiesta is everywhere, enlivened by “la charanga”, a musical band.
An Unforgettable day! Once experienced, you will want to take part every year!
Viva San Roque! Viva Sorbas!
