Caravaca de la Cruz and Bullas

Museum of Wine Horse Festival and Museum of Wine

This tour will introduce you to a town famed as a religious destination. Caravaca de la Cruz is considered to be one of the five holy cities in the world, alongside Rome, Jerusaleum, Santiago de Compostela and Santo Toribio de Liebana (Cantabria).

Its glorious past is well presented in a number of preserved sites and traditions. The town passed through Islamic dominion and Christian Reconquest, when the Holy Cross appeared. The town was defended by the Templar Knights and, later, by the Order of Santiago. Many traditions and festivals are rooted in historic events, including the colourful and exciting Festival of Wine Horses, celebrated on the 2nd of May - but that is another story, which we´ll tell in due time when we return in May to experience the festival.

On the offered tour you can enjoy a day out getting to know the history of the place and its festival, see the meticulously embroidered horse mantles and stroll along the streets of the old town.

In the afternoon we will make a stop in the village of Bullas to visit the Museum of Wine. Bullas is renowned for its wines and denominated as a Protected Designation of Origin, which speaks for the quality of wines produced here.

We recommend: wear comfortable clothing and footwear, and bring sun protection such as a cap or a hat, and sun screen.
